This is a 37 page pdf that you can print and use the same templates multiple times throughout the year.
This companion was designed with Grades 2–4 in mind.
A Grade 2 student might brainstorm with a parent and turn an idea into three sentences.
A Grade 3 student might independently plan an idea and begin organizing their writing into paragraphs.
A Grade 4 student can use the same page while being challenged to develop multiple paragraphs, add stronger details, vary sentences, use transitions and revise their work.
The pages don't have to become harder. The writer grows.
A Parent Guide is included to help you adjust expectations based on your child's stage of writing.
While putting this resource together, I cross-referenced the English Language Arts competencies and learning expectations for Grades 2–4 in Quebec and looked for alternative ways my son could practice many of these skills through meaningful reading, writing, exploration and conversation.
This is a creative writing and literacy companion, not a complete English Language Arts curriculum.
It does not replace systematic instruction in areas such as grammar, spelling, phonics or other foundational language skills. Pair it with whatever English resources best suit your child's needs.
